The California Department of Education awards three HBUHSD schools

Since 1985, the California Department of Education (CDE) has recognized schools across the state that display exemplary achievements through the California Distinguished Schools Program. However, the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic made the collection of data for statewide assessments difficult. For this reason, the California Pivotal Practice Program (CAPP) has been used for the year 2022 in lieu of the California Distinguished Schools Program.

We at the Huntington Beach Unified High School District would like to congratulate the three following schools for being recognized as CAPP Awardees: Huntington Beach High School, Ocean View High School, and Westminster High School.

The 2022 CAPP honors schools that implemented a new pivotal practice while offering distance learning during the 2020–21 school year. Schools had the opportunity to submit an online application demonstrating how they assisted their students in at least one of the following four areas – student engagement, technology distribution, nutrition services, and social-emotional well-being.

Huntington Beach, Ocean View, and Westminster High Schools successfully showcased their creativity and professionalism in their ability to implement unique strategies to support and encourage students. Their ingenuity and desire to bridge the educational experience brought increased comfort during such an uncertain time.

We applaud all of the CAPP Awardees for their effective efforts during the 2020-21 school year.
