The Westminster MERITS program along with Principal Amy Sabol, District Director of Human Resources Dr. Dan Bryan, District Special Program Coordinator Mrs Melissa Chan, Former District Board of Trustee Mrs Kathy Iverson celebrated teams of MERITS students on their STEM prowess. Amongst the recognition were Samsung Solve State Winners, 5 Exploravision national honorable mentions and....drum roll... Exploravision National runner up WHS Queen Bees who will head to Washington D.C. for a tour de force and award ceremony. Special guests Phong Ly representing Congressman Alan Lowenthal, Billy Le (WHS Alumni) representing County Clerk Hugh Nguyen, and Garden Grove Council Woman Thu Ha Nguyen (WHS Alumni) presented additional awards on behalf of the community to recognize our students' hard work. 8 Winning Teams Recognized for Innovative Solutions to the World’s Challenges
Westminster, CA (5/09) – Westminster High School is pleased to announce a team from our MERITS program was selected as one of the National Finalists of the 30th annual ExploraVision challenge, the largest K-12 science competition designed to build problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration skills. The WHS Queen Bees’ project titled Genetically Engineering A Neonicotinoid-Degrading Microbiome Bacteria Using CRISPR Technology to Create a Probiotic that Combats Bee Mortality earned each student $5000 savings bond each and an all expense paid trip to Washington DC for celebration events.Terri | Pham |
